Virgin Mary is the Mother of all Christians. When we face dicult moments in life, we ask her for consolation and hope. Great love towards Blessed Virgin Mary was visible as early as in the Middle Ages, when she was held in particular veneration due to her intercession onpeople’s behalf to God the Father. Mary with the Holy Infant was one of the favorite subjects of the greatest European painters and sculptors. Her image is one of the oldest and most popular motifs in Christian art, presumably created for the rst time by Luke the Evangelist.

Each coin from this series has been adorned with a rose ornament. Rose as the queen of flowers is a symbol of beauty – the attribute of Virgin Mary. In the loretanian liturgy Mary is referred to as the “Spiritual Rose”. This flower is a symbol of love and motherhood. The rose is also associated with one of the most beautiful prayers – the prayer of the Rosary.

The masterpieces depicting the Mother of God were displayed during the World Youth Day 2016 in Cracow during the exhibition “Maria Mater Misericordiae”.
